Documentaire - Burmese Dreaming

A young woman has a nightmare about soldiers killing her father in a mountain village in Burma. She wakes up. She is in a refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border but after six years this is still not where her mind lives. Instead, it drifts between the realities of refugee life and dreams, day-dreams and nightmares about Burma and the life she used to live. She is in the fields talking with her buffalo, she is dancing in the rain with her brothers, but she is also a five year old girl taken from her family and imprisoned by the Burmese military. Described as a documentary poem, Burmese Dreaming combines stories written by refugees on the Thailand-Burma border, a composed musical score, and footage shot throughout Burma by author and international award winning photojournalist, Timothy Syrota. Together, these tell a simple and compellingly human story about life in Burma under totalitarian rule.
